WINE-IS Connecting the Wine World

Wine-is is a company focused on connecting the wine world (wineries, wine lovers, distributors, wine shops and restaurants) present in all continents and in over 30 countries.

The idea occurred in 2006 when the mass consumption of wine was already a reality and many social networks arose providing a great amount of information and making the consumer much more wine connoisseur. It was by that time that the idea of implementing a digital wine list that would allow the restaurant to provide all the possible information to the customer at the exact moment of choosing the wine came out.

Due to the technological constraints at the time, the project was developed on a Tablet-Pc with flash software. A restaurant was selected to make a one month experience that would allow to get the feedback from the clients. This experience allowed to understand that the project came out too early. The hardware was too heavy, occupied too much room on the restaurant table because it was not touch sensitive and customers had to use a Stylus pen and the battery autonomy was very low. These factors led to hold the project.

In 2010 the iPad arrives, the big opportunity to relaunch the previously suspended project. The Wine-is team started immediately to develop the first “Wine-is iPad Wine List” application which was launched in Solar dos Presuntos restaurant in Lisbon, on May 26th, 2010. Some amendments were made afterwards mainly the creation of a data base with wine and wineries datasheets allowed the producers to directly update the information instead of the restaurants.

This database provides very complete, exclusive and reliable contents and is available to be used by any restaurant, wine shop, distributor or wine lover.
